Gibraltar Cardiac Association

It started with an idea

The Gibraltar Cardiac Association was registered as a local charity in November 2016, but the idea goes back to the late 1990s.

How we got here

Many cardiac sufferers and their families felt forgotten and were not getting the support from the health service they needed. This is what they did about it.

  1. Late 1990s

    CRAGS is formed

Cardiac patients Lionel Perez, Charles Head, William Finlayson and Louis Monteverde, with nurse Gerry Fortuna, create the Cardiac Rehabilitation And Group Support.

  2. 2000s

    A voice for patients

The group meets regularly and acts as a pressure group, winning better benefits and conditions for patients and families attending hospitals abroad.

  3. 2010s

    The group fades

CRAGS never registered as a charity. As its committee members passed away, the group quietly came to an end.

  4. November 2016

    The association is registered

Under Chairperson Troy Jeffries, the Gibraltar Cardiac Association becomes a registered local charity and takes up the same aims.

  5. Today

    A committee of twelve

Not all are cardiac patients themselves, but every member is close to someone who has lived with a heart condition.

Our aims continue to be the same

We are committed to creating public awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet and regular exercise. We are here to ensure cardiac sufferers are not forgotten and get the support they require.

We hold fundraising events so we can keep investing in AEDs, training material and new equipment for the Rehab Centre, working towards our long-term goal of a centre built specifically for cardiac patients.

We are a young charity, but with hard work and the support of our community we are confident we will achieve our aims so that future generations may benefit.
