AEDs in Gibraltar

An AED is a lightweight, battery-operated, portable device that checks the heart's rhythm and sends a shock to restore a normal rhythm. It is used to help people having a sudden cardiac arrest.

If someone collapses

An AED is simple to use. Once the pads are placed on the patient the device decides whether to shock on its own, requiring minimum interaction.

    Call 190

    Call 190 for an ambulance in Gibraltar, or 112 from any mobile. Tell them someone has collapsed and is not breathing normally.

    Start CPR

    Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest, about twice a second. Do not stop until help or an AED arrives.

    Send for the AED

    Ask someone to fetch the nearest AED from the map below. Open it and follow the spoken instructions.

    Let the AED decide

    Place the pads as shown. The device checks the heart rhythm itself and will only shock if it is needed.
